The Champions League returned with an enthralling game at the San Siro as Tottenham Hotspur eked out a 1-0 win over AC Milan. Peter Crouch (pictured) scored on a counter-attack after a brilliant run and pass from Aaron Lennon for the game’s only goal. Gennaro Gattuso and Michel Flamini both were lucky not to be sent off for Milan in a scrappy game that got ugly late on. Spurs relied on Heurelho Gomes to make two fine saves on strong headers from Milan’s Mario Yepes. Zlatan Ibrahimović did finally manage a goal for the home side in injury-time, a brilliant goal from a bicycle kick, but it was called back for offside and a foul. In the end Spurs were probably the better side, though Milan improved dramatically when Alexandre Pato replaced Clarence Seedorf at half-time. The away goal for Spurs is a massive boost in a match where they were without Gareth Bale and for most of the game, Luka Modrić.
