Danny Welbeck (pictured) scored the game’s only goal in the first half and Craig Gordon recorded a fantastic save to preserve the clean sheet in Sunderland‘s 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light. On a day where most every other game was postponed due to snow, the Black Cats and Trotters survived the cold and got their game in. Bolton will wish they could have postponed this one as they simply could not muster much by way of offense. Welbeck, who has been a nice find via loan from Manchester United, kept Sunderland in good shape for a Europa League position and moved the Black Cats within just four points of qualifying for the Champions League. Bolton slip back to seventh but are just a point below both northeast clubs, Sunderland and Newcastle United.
