John W. Henry (pictured) has purchased Liverpool Football Club for the cool sum of £300m. The new era at Anfield Road will interestingly begin across town at Goodison Park against Everton in this season’s first Merseyside derby on Saturday. Whether or not Henry will be in attendance is open to question, but his bid to buy take over the debts accumulated by fellow Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks has passed through the legal systems in New York, Texas and most importantly Liverpool. Some Scousers have already gotten behind Henry as a savior from the insufferable and debt-laden Hicks and Gillett. Most are eying the situation skeptically, wondering if yet another American could be trying to unload more troubles on the floundering Reds. Either way, Liverpool are sure to be better off, at least mentally, now that the burden of debt and ownership have been resolved.
