For the second consecutive day a club on Merseyside were defeated by a far smaller club in the Carling Cup. Today it was Liverpool who fell on penalties League Two side Northampton Town at Anfield Road. 18-year old Michael Jacobs gave the Cobblers the lead on 98 minutes after the game had gone to extra-time on a 1-1 score line. David N’Gog equalized for the Reds, sending the game to penalties. By the time Abdul Osman stepped up to the spot, directly in front of the Kop, Town were ready to win. And win they did, knocking down the giants and propelling themselves into the fourth round.
