On an otherwise perfect day for the favorites of Match Day 1(b), Spartak Moscow scored an unlikely goal at the Stade Velodrome to stunningly defeat Olympique de Marseille 1-0 in Group F. OM dominated the match but Ukrainian keeper Andriy Dikan made save after save to deny the home side and give the Meat the chance to win the match. Dmitri Kombarov won it for the visitors, though it was officially ruled an own-goal after a heavy deflection from César Azpilicueta.
