Tottenham Hotspur have launched an extremely late £8m bid for Real Madrid and Holland international midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart. There seems to be a question as to whether or not ‘Arry Redknapp was able to get the bid in to the FA offices before the 6pm local time close of the 2010 summer transfer window. Strangely, Bayern Munich failed in an attempt to sign Van der Vaart for £18m just on Monday. Why the 27-year old Dutchman suddenly became available for £10m less to a club in London is truly a bizarre twist that has yet to be fully explained. If Spurs are able to acquire his services, Van der Vaart will surely go straight into the starting XI at White Hart Lane. Officials at Gloucester Place are still trying to sort out whether or not the proper documentation came through in time.
