With the summer transfer window only open for another two weeks, Fulham needed to add at least one more creative, attacking player. Having missed out on the Craig Bellamy saga, the Cottagers opted for Moussa Dembélé, a Belgian international forward playing at AZ in the Eredivisie. The 23-year old has been in Alkmaar since 2006 and scored 24 goals over his four seasons in Holland. Whether the youngster can have the kind of impact that Bellamy could have provided will never be known, but in the longer term, especially considering how poor Fulham were in domestic play last season, picking up a player under 25 makes much more sense than adding the 31-year old Bellamy. Dembélé had been a target of Birmingham City but the Blues recently brought Matt Derbyshire back to England on loan from Olympiakos.
