The Scottish runners-up did win the second leg of their third qualifying round tie with Sporting Braga in the Champions League, but it was not enough to overcome the 3-0 defeat in the first leg and Celtic duly crashed out of the competition. Gary Hooper and Efraín Juárez scored for the Bhoys in a 2-1 victory at Celtic Park but a 4-2 aggregate victory for the Portuguese side. For the second consecutive season, the Hoops do not reach the group stage of the Champions League, last year falling to Arsenal in the play-off round.
