Another David Villa (pictured) goal sent Spain through to the quarterfinals at the expense of Iberian rivals Portugal. Villa’s third goal of this World Cup came in the second half and gave the Spanish all they would need in a 1-0 win at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. The goal ended Portugal’s streak of clean sheets in this tournament at three and meant that the Portuguese scored only in one game, their seven-goal destruction of North Korea. Fernando Torres was again disappointing for the European champions but Spain will be happy to go through another round without their famous striker playing his best. The quarterfinal match-up will see Spain play Paraguay with the right to play either Holland or Brazil in the semi-finals.
