Brazil silenced all critics today with a 3-0 rout of rivals Chile at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. Juan, Luís Fabiano and Robinho (pictured) did the damage for the world’s most famous side as Brazil tore Chile apart, almost from the start. There were whispers that perhaps the Chileans could push enough attack at Brazil to frustrate them and perhaps even steal a goal and the game. But Brazil showed the mettle that defines this new breed both by blasting in goals and through organized, compact defense. That defense will be strongly tested in the quarterfinal round as a match-up with Holland awaits. Chile will be disappointed with the result, though advancement through the group stage was probably always the goal.
