Luis Suárez (pictured) scored both goals as Uruguay advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time since 1970. Lee Chung-Yong equalized for South Korea with a 68th minute header but Suárez rounded two defenders and scored a sublime goal just nine minutes from time to earn the famous 2-1 win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Half of the game was played in torrential rain but that could not deter both sides from scoring in the second half. South Korea’s goal was amazingly the first allowed by Uruguay in this tournament while the combination of Suárez and Diego Forlán up front has give the Uruguayans the most potent duo in the World Cup. Up next is the winner of today’s USA v. Ghana match for a spot in the semi-finals. For South Korea it was a fine effort and only their second advancement out of a group stage.
