A wild 2-2 draw between Nigeria and South Korea at Durban Stadium earned enough points to push the Koreans into the round of 16 and send the Super Eagles packing. With a win today and a Greek loss, Nigeria were in position to claim second place in Group B and advance to play Uruguay this weekend in the first knockout round. Instead, despite scoring twice, Nigeria missed easy chances on several second half occasions and become the second African side to go crashing out of this World Cup. As second place finishers, South Korea get Uruguay for the right to reach the quarterfinals. The Koreans only other advancement out of the group stage came as hosts in 2002 when they surprisingly reached the semi-finals. That seems unlikely in this tournament, but presumably a match against Uruguay is a far better situation than some of the other likely second place finishers among other groups.
