Portugal rung up a stunning seven goals against hapless North Korea to eliminate the latter and push the former to the brink of qualification for the knockout rounds. The 7-0 score line is the third-highest of all-time and the six goals scored in the second half at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town is the new record. Raúl Meireles, Simão, Hugo Almeida (pictured), Tiago (twice), Liédson and Cristiano Ronaldo all tallied goals in the most lopsided game of this tournament. Despite the valiant effort against Brazil just last week, North Korea go crashing out of Group G, regardless of how they fair against Côte d’Ivoire. Portugal can still win the group if they can knock off Brazil later this week, but need at least a draw to guarantee their advancement. The dramatic goal differential should provide some over if Portugal fail to earn any points and end up on the same points as Côte d’Ivoire.
