A 75th minute header from Mark Gonzalez (pictured) gave Chile a 1-0 win over ten-man Switzerland at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Valon Behrami was sent off for the Swiss on a controversial call in the first half, leaving the already defensive side in a position of simply trying to hold their ground. They defended admirably and were helped by terrible finishing from the Chileans until Esteban Paredes’ cross found Gonzalez at the back post just fifteen minutes from time. Both sides are very much alive in Group H, though exactly where they stand will depend on the result of the Spain-Honduras match later in the day. But as it stands, Chile are looking good for qualification for the knockout rounds.

The Swiss team wanted nothing more than a 0 – 0 draw, even at the start of this match. They defended well but on slip-up cost them the match. This group is very tight now!
