Keisuke Honda scored a first half goal to shockingly give usually passing-oriented Japan a 1-0 victory over favored Cameroon at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. Cameroon rarely challenged Japan physically, negating their advantages in size and strength. Instead it was Japan who took their chances well and it was Honda who was at the end of a wonderful Daisuke Matsui cross to put away the surprisingly domitable Lions. Japan slide into second place in Group E as Holland will remain above on higher goal differential. Still, three points were certainly unexpected for the Japanese and the failure to secure even one before facing the two European sides could prove to be disastrous for Cameroon.
