The foul by Kevin-Prince Boateng that sent Michael Ballack out of the FA Cup final on Saturday at Wembley has claimed what would have been Ballack’s third World Cup and second as captain of Germany. One of the most decorated players in the world as three-time German Player of the Year and two-time World Cup All-Star team member, Ballack will be absent from a Germany side with some aspirations in South Africa 2010. Though he clearly is not the star he once was, the 33-year old midfielder is a unifying force for the Germans and will be sorely missed. For his part, Boateng was shown a yellow card, an act that is mostly meaningless considering it was the final game of the season.
