Peter Whittingham (pictured) scored the game’s only goal at the Walkers Stadium to see Cardiff City slip past embittered Leicester City 1-0 in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final. The free kick goal on 78 minutes was enough to give the away side the unexpected victory, though their play was deserving of an advantage going into the second leg back in Wales on Wednesday. The Foxes were upset at what they judged to be a handball in the box on the part of the Bluebirds, yet no penalty was awarded. Leicester now face an away game at this year’s top Welsh club just for a chance to play in the final at Wembley. Cardiff of course have nothing to lose as there has never been a Welsh side in the Premier League.
