Nottingham Forest were easily the best club in the Championship outside of the top two while Blackpool had to qualify for sixth place on the last day of the season. Yet none of that mattered in the semi-final first leg between the two sides at Bloomfield Road as the Seasiders came from behind to defeat Forest 2-1. Chris Cohen’s cracker had given the visitors a thirteenth minute lead but Kevin Southern equalized for the Pool on twenty-six minutes. Charlie Adam (pictured), Blackpool’s big money signing last summer from Rangers, then notched the home side’s second and decisive goal on fifty-seven minutes from the penalty spot. Obviously this result does not conclude anything as Forest are a strong side at the City Ground. But a 2-1 start is certainly a nice one for Blackpool.
