A 2-1 victory over Sheffield United coupled with Nottingham Forest’s nil-nil draw with Cardiff City guaranteed promotion back to the Premier League for Newcastle United. Peter Løvenkrands and Kevin Nolan (pictured) scored for Toon in their comeback against the Blades to send the Magpies right back into the Premier League after a sixteen year stay was interrupted by this season in the Championship. West Bromich Albion are next up to qualify for promotion, though they still need several more points to guarantee their second place position. As detailed earlier, six clubs are still in the hunt for the four positions that will qualify for the Championship playoff.

  1. With penance paid, I hope the “new” United will remind us of the Newcastle of the mid-90s, troubling the current top four with great goal-scorers and a tremendous support.

Now, if only Leeds would get their asses in gear. You, too, Forest!

  2. Agreed, how great would it be to see Leeds and Forest back in the top flight. It wouldn’t bother me a bit to see Hull City and Wolves go back down. Though I hate to see Portsmouth go down. I hope they get things figured out and don’t go the Leeds route through League One before returning.
