Liverpool made Mickaël Landreau work for it but the LOSC keeper kept the home side in the game long enough for teenager Eden Hazard (pictured) to score from a 84th minute free kick and give Lille a massive 1-0 victory at the Stade Lille-Métropole. Hazard troubled the Reds defense all night but it was his free kick that eluded both the heads of his intended teammates and Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina that brought a famous victory to Lille and put Liverpool in a very bad position returning next week to Anfield for the second leg.

Other early first leg scores from the Europa League Round of 16:

Hamburg 3 – Anderlecht 1
Rubin Kazan 1 – Wolfsburg 1
Atlético Madrid 0 – Sporting 0
