Frazier Campbell scored in the first minute and Darren Bent (pictured) added three goals of his own to send Sunderland to a very important 4-0 home victory over Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light. Bent’s outburst sends the Black Cats from sixteenth place to thirteenth, jumping three clubs including Bolton. Sunderland are now a fairly safe six points from relegation while Bolton remain in decent shape with a five-point cushion in fourteenth.
Birmingham City jumped back into eighth place with a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Cameron Jerome got back into the scoring mood with both goals in the first half. This result turns around the FA Cup quarterfinal between these two sides over the weekend and sees Brum jump Everton to move within two points of seventh place. Pompey fall back to earth after their short run that brought hopes of moving nearer to the competition at the bottom of the table. Portsmouth remain four points behind nineteenth place Burnley with court cases and a potential nine-point administration penalty to come.
