Hassan Yebda converted a penalty on 76 minutes to give Portsmouth a rare victory in this disaster of a season, 2-1 to Burnley at Turf Moor. After going into administration yesterday and learning that they are likely to receive a nine-point penalty, Pompey refused to give up on the season. Frédéric Piquionne (pictured) scored early for Portsmouth but was answered on 31 minutes by Martin Paterson setting up Yebda’s dramatic winner. Not being able to beat Portsmouth at home is a really bad sign for Burnley. They remain in nineteenth place and face the very real possibility of going down to the Championship with Pompey at season’s end.

Bolton Wanderers finally jumped out of the relegation zone by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at the Reebok. Zat Knight scored just moments before half-time for the only goal of the game between two struggling sides. The Trotters are by no means safe, but they are for now clear of the drop zone. Hull City drop in their place with Wolves now only safe via goal differential.

And Birmingham City moved back ahead of Everton into eighth place behind James Mcfadden’s penalty in first half extra-time. The 1-0 scoreline was enough to see Brum defeat Wigan Athletic at St. Andrews and strengthen the Blues’ chances at snagging a European position. Wigan are in shambles and are now just one point clear of the drop zone.
