Arsenal scored twice in extra-time to defeat Stoke City 3-1 at the Britannia Stadium. The victory though was marred by the terrifying leg injury to Aaron Ramsey in the second half. Ryan Shawcross was sent off for the foul that completely snapped Ramsey’s lower leg. The Gunners were able to collect themselves and ultimately used Thomas Vermaelen (pictured) and Cesc Fàbregas goals in the game’s waning moments to secure a very important away victory. The three points send Arsenal within two of second place Manchester United and within on of front-running Chelsea. It also keeps a big nine-point gap between the third place Gunners and fourth place Manchester City. Stoke are in eleventh place.

  1. Good god what cruddy luck. The tackle looked high, but nothing that would cause the result. All I could see from replaying on my DVR was Ramsey’s lower-right leg dangling below the knee, in an unnatural way. OUCH! Guy on the TV said it may involve a knee injury as well. Get well soon.

  2. I refused to watch a replay of it. But I read somewhere that other players on the field were puking after seeing it. It is also crazy that Abou Diaby, Eduardo and now Ramsey have all had these catastrophic in the past few years. Makes you think Arsenal is cursed. The only good thing for them is that they’d already shipped Jack Wilshere out on loan so he can’t get hurt too.
