Brede Hangeland’s (pictured) goal on 33 minutes was enough for Fulham to withstand a second half goal from Jádson and advance to the round of sixteen in the Europa League. The 1-1 draw gave the Cottagers a 3-2 aggregate victory over the UEFA Cup holders and a relatively big upset at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk. Fulham will face the winner of the Ajax-Juventus tie currently being played.
In Romania, Liverpool overturned an early deficit to earn a 3-1 victory over Unirea Urziceni and take a 4-1 aggregate advantage into the round of sixteen. Bruno Fernandes scored an easy header to unsettle the Reds but goals from Javier Mascherano, Ryan Babel and Steven Gerrard sealed the fate of the Romanian champions and sent Liverpool forward to face either Lille or Fenerbahçe.
The rest of the early Europa League scores:
Galatasaray 1 – Atlético Madrid 2 (2-3 aggregate)
Anderlecht 4 – Athletic Bilbao 0 (5-1 aggregate)
Marseille 3 – København 1 (6-2 aggregate)
Roma 2 – Panathinaikos 3 (4-6 aggregate)
PSV 3 – Hamburg 2 (3-3 aggregate)
