Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko (pictured) powered Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-0 away victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium. Pavlyuchenko’s goal gave Spurs breathing room after Defoe’s goal was clearly offside and could’ve been cause for complaint. The game was played on a horrific pitch and with intermittent snow. Wigan remain just two points clear of the drop zone while Spurs go level on points with Manchester City but hold a greater goal differential, thanks mostly to the two games against Wigan this season.
Speaking of Manchester City, they’re big chance to make a move on the top three fizzled out in a strange nil-nil draw with Liverpool at Eastlands. Neither side looked at all prepared to be included in the Champions League next season with dozens of mishit balls, bad passes and poor finishing. At the end of the day, City go to fifth while Liverpool sit sixth.
And Bobby Zamora scored on an extra-time free kick to send Fulham to a 2-1 defeat of Birmingham City at Craven Cottage. The Cottagers pass Brum on the table for ninth place with the three points that were once again compliments of Zamora. Fulham had to fight back from an early deficit as a third minute own-goal by Chris Baird set the home side in an early hole. But Damien Duff leveled the score on 51 minutes to give the home side a chance at the end.
